Crusaders Repelled by the Flyers

Woking Blackhawk Flyers 111:48 Kent Crusaders

For the First home game of the year the Flyers hosted Kent Crusaders and they were not ready to make the same mistakes as in their first meeting, then the young legs and effectively played front court press had caught the Flyers out.

From the tip the Flyers controlled the game, rapidly taking a 7:0 lead with point guard Tomas Politi taking a pivotal and inspirational role in coordinating the attack from the starting five. Oscar Wilkins claimed the first point from the free throw line and power forward Jack Price rapidly sank two baskets in succession. By the end of the first quarter the Crusaders had been limited to 7 points whilst the Flyers has stacked up an impressive 23.

In the Second quarter ramped up the pressure with the Flyers freely scoring a massive 38 points giving the Flyers a 34 point margin at the half with the score standing at 61:27. Tomas Politi sank 3 from 4 beyond the 3 point line and himself accumulated 14 points by the half, deciding then to stay on the bench for the second half giving other payers valuable court time and experience.

With a full bench coach Knode was able rotate the players keeping fresh legs on the court at all times making the defence and equally effective as the attack. The second half was won by an impressive 52 to 23 points.

MVP for the game was Jack Price with 20 points and 11 rebounds. However it was a team performance with six players scoring in double figures, everybody have good court time and providing a positive contribution. Player Coach Knode gave his usual positive contribution of 15 points, capitalising on his ability to judge the court and be under the basket to receive the fast break pass, and then sink it

The Flyers now have a three week break before their next game away at Folkstone Saints.

Elsewhere in the Club the Hunters claimed the first away win of the year with a convincing 56-69 win at Woodley Warriors
