Woking Blackhawk Flyers 65:53 Folkestone Saint
Time for a Win!
A fortnights break with some good training sessions under their belt, Andre Bayliss returning from injury and new signing Rhys Johnson the bench, the Flyers confidence had been rebuilt after their first three losses of the season in the league.
Coach Knode had opted for a new starting five combination of Dan Marshall, Andre Bayliss, Tomas Politi, Tom Peters and Jack Price. With instructions to go out at full intensity using the plays practised in training. The result was what he wanted the tip was won, baskets were traded and the lead changed several times but by the end of the first quarter after a few tactical substitutions to maintain the impetus a 3 point margin was established.
For the second quarter the coach requested intense defence was duly delivered as the Saints were restricted to only 4 points during the entire second quarter with the Flyers amassing a 19 point lead.
The starting five came back on the court for the third quarter and the Saints regained their composure and started scoring again. Jack Price took a knock in defendind under the basket and rolled his ankle which prevented him taking any further part in the game.
Fortunately with the depth of bench available to the coach Jacks absence did not prove a problem. Recent signing Rhys Johnson entered the fray for the first time and soon opened his account and finished the third quarter with a beautiful three from the corner.
Although the Saints narrowed the lead marginally in the second half the Flyers maintained their control on the game and took a comfortable win.
MVP for the Flyers was Jack Price shooting 4 from 5 field goals and 5 rebounds. Top scorer with 14 points was point guard Tomas Politi who played a pivotal role in controlling the court.
It was however a team performance with everybody scoring except Andre who instead pulled down 9 rebounds under the basket
Next week the Flyers host Thames Valley Cavaliers at Woking College 15:30 tip.
