Ladies make a winning start

Away to Chiltern Fusion, Sunday 25th September
Won 59-37

There was a mixture of nerves and excitement as the first game of the season got underway for the Woking Blackhawks Ladies team. The Blackhawks knew it would be a tough game, with three of their eight players joining the Woking team this season, and facing them Chiltern Fusion, winners of the 2015-16 season. Undeterred the ladies took to the court with ambition and drive, played as a unit on defence and finished the first quarter ahead at 10-6.

Woking's Elaine Montgomery made a welcomed entrance in the second quarter and made an immediate impact scoring 10 out of Woking's 14 points in the quarter. Despite this, Chiltern showed their prowess under the basket, using their height advantage to get some easy buckets and clinch the second quarter with the game ending 25-24 in favour of Chiltern at the half.

Led by point guard Clara Massot, Woking went hard on defence from the start of the third quarter, applying full-court pressure at every opportunity. Chiltern struggled to react to this pressure and get the ball into their offensive end allowing Woking to take an early lead. A time out from Chiltern gave Woking a bit of a breather, but the ladies never looked back and applied intense pressure right up until the final whistle. The hard work paid off as Woking forced turn-over after turn-over for some easy lay-ups, and limited Chiltern's scoring to just 12 in the half. The final score was 59 - 37 to Woking.
