Wessex Playoff Finals 2023Blackhawk Ladies 1 Last Minute Playoff TriumphIn a repeat of their Richard Bell Cup Victory earlier on the year, the Blackhawk Ladies snatched a last minute victory in their Wessex Ladies Division One playoff Final against Winchester Royals. A competitive game throughout Winchester took control in the second quarter which they won 21:10 to take them into half time with a 15point lead 44:29. Halfway through the third quarter Winchester had further increased their lead to 17 points 55:38. At this stage instead of panic at the situation, the squad decided to try to relax and enjoy the remainder of the game. This let the Blackhawks play their game and by the end of the quarter the halftime deficit had been marginally trimmed by 1 leaving a 14 point deficit. The ‘relaxed play’ instilled confidence and a tight defence limited Winchester to three baskets and 8 points in the final quarter. It was not until the ninth minute of the quarter that the game became drawn at 68:68, and final three throw gave a victory to a rapturous cheers from their supporters. The final score being Winchester Royal Ladies 68:69 Blackhawk Ladies Captain Lisa Bhaura revcieving the Playoff Trophys and Becky Cole receiving her MVP award No Silverware for the Blackhawks MenBlackhawk squads competed in three of the six Wessex playoff finals. The men’s Division One and Two squads could not claim the silverware. However, all the games were very competitively played Blackhawks One played a high scoring game against BC Green White Boys. The game was dominated by the outside shooters with 26 three point baskets sunk between the two teams. It was BC Green White Boys who came out on top with a deserved 101:76 win. Blackhawks Two played South Bucks Comets, the Blackhawks took a lead in the first quarter (23:18) which they maintained until the half 38:35. In the last two quarter the advantage could not be maintained and eventually South Bucks came out victorious 71:76. |
